Ana Maria Torres established at architects in New York City in 2000. Ms. Torres is a licensed as an urban planner as well as an  architect in both Spain and New York State. Before arriving in the United States, Ana Maria Torres was Associate Professor of Architectural Design at E. T. S. Architecture in Madrid.

As a partner at Balmori Associates in New Haven, CT, where she was a principal prior to establishing at architects, Ana Maria Torres was responsible for the landscape and urban design of Abandoibarra in Bilbao, Spain; the Performing Arts Center of Greater Miami, Florida; the Museum of Modern Art in Osaka, Japan; and the Petronas Towers Plaza, Kuala Lumpur. She was also a finalist in the World War II Memorial Competition in Washington, DC.

Ana Maria Torres’s ongoing efforts to integrate the fields of architecture, landscape, and sculpture are also reflected in her work as an author and curator of museum exhibitions. She is the author of two monogarphs: Isamu Noguchi: A Study of Space, the Monacelli Press, 2000; Carme Pinos: Architecture of Overlay, The Monacelli Press, 2003; and she has organized exhibitions of the work of Marjetica Potrč, IVAM, 2003; Scott Burton, IVAM, 2004; James Turrell, IVAM, 2005 and Biennal de Canarias (site specific permanent installation by Carme Pinos). Her articles have been published in Metropolis, Process Architecture, and Arquitectura Viva. Ms. Torres has received grants for her work from the Graham Foundation, and the Comité Conjunto Hispano-Americano de Cooperación Cultural.
